Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai today praised the Centre's decision to revive the city's neglected Ring Railway and said the city government along with the Railway Ministry will form a joint action committee to execute the project.
The nearly 35 km-long circular rail network in the national capital was introduced in 1975 and has 21 stations.
Rai said the joint action committee will also find ways to ensure connectivity to these stations so that people don't face problem.
Around 3,700 passengers take the line daily, including many office goers living in the neighbouring states.
In December last year, Rai had met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on the issue of increasing frequency of trains on the Ring Railway to shift the passenger load towards the service, days before the implementation of even-odd scheme on January 1.
In what may provide a boost to the city's public transport system, the rail budget today announced the revival of Delhi's ring railway system, overshadowed by the rapid expansion of the metro, to check rising pollution levels.
