The Delhi government will oppose in the Supreme Court the interim bail plea of Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav, who are serving a 25-year jail term in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case.
The apex court will hear the petition filed by Vikas, the son of former MP D P Yadav, and Vishal on August 5 seeking revision of the "enhanced sentence" by the Delhi High Court. They have also pleaded for an interim bail.
"The Delhi government will oppose their interim bail plea. Besides, it will also plead the Supreme Court to show no leniency towards the convicts," a source said, adding all facts will be put before the court.
The government will also plead the court "not to show any leniency in revising quantum of the punishment for the duo", the source said.
In February last year, the Delhi High Court had enhanced the sentence for Vikas and Vishal from life imprisonment to 25 years without remission for the murder of Nitish Katara and five more years for destruction of evidence in the case.
