The Delhi government has decided to re-develop the websites of all its 180 departments by taking several steps, including providing Hindi content to make them user-friendly, an official said.
The information technology department of the government has asked all secretaries and principal secretaries to nominate a nodal officer for coordination with IT department to re-develop the websites.
As per the plan, departments will also have to provide Hindi content on their respective websites. Most of departments' websites now have content in English.
According to the official, the central government has issued guidelines for Indian government websites (GIGW) for making government websites citizen centric and visitor friendly.
The guidelines call for making the websites multi-lingual and having universal accessibility for the general public as per the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
"In order to make all departments' website of Delhi government GIGW compliant, the IT department has launched an exercise of re-developing content. The major work under the re-development of websites is translation of existing content from English to Hindi," the official said, on condition of anonymity.
"The HODs have also been asked to start the process of translating contents of existing websites from English to Hindi and will send the same to the IT department," the official said.
