Delhi Government has decided to send 25,000 packets of food and 25,000 pouches of drinking water as immediate relief for the people of earthquake-hit Nepal.
The first consignment of relief material is ready to be despatched on Monday and the state government is also ready with other forms of dry eatables to be sent to Nepal, said a statement issued by Delhi Government today.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and attended by all top officials of the state government.
The chief minister also spoke to the ambassador designate of Nepal in India and assured all help to the people of the neighbouring country in this hour of crisis. Kejriwal said the residents of Delhi shared the grief of the affected people of Nepal.
"The state government is ready to provide relief material on a daily basis till the time it is required. The process of sending relief material will be coordinated with the central government by the chief secretary and the divisional commissioner (who is also the relief commissioner).
"These two top officials are in touch with the Cabinet Secretariat, the Ministry of External Affairs and the National Disaster Management Authority," he said.
Ten teams of doctors (five teams of surgeons and five teams of general physicians) are on standby and can be sent the moment the central government will require their services.
Health Minister Satydenra Jain said stocks of emergency medicines have been kept ready for despatch.
Delhi Government has also conveyed to the central government the readiness of civil defence volunteers to participate in relief and rehabilitation work.
