The government today launched a first-of-its kind mass awareness programme with a target of one lakh school children competing for maximum energy conservation at home.
According to an official statement, the project is a tri-partite collaboration between the Delhi Government, a power consultancy-Mott MacDonald and its tertiary Green Energy Solutions, aimed at educating both parents and children for energy conservation by dispensing useful energy saving tips.
"The children will maintain a monthly record of units saved through energy cards which will be distributed to schools across the capital. They have to enter the details for electricity bills of their homes from November 2016 to February 2017 including units consumed and saved," the statement said.
Parents and teachers will be signing these cards each month and in March 2017, special prizes and certificates will be given for least energy units consumed.
"Our focus is to save 24 crore units of electricity per year with the help of the school children and their families. The competition costs Rs 10 per student and would lead to saving 10-30 units of electricity per student," said Liz King Managing Director, Mott MacDonald.
