The Delhi Police have arrested a wanted criminal, accused in a double murder case of April last year, from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh.

Adil, the sharpshooter of a notorious gang based in north-east Delhi and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, was held yesterday by a Special Cell team of the Delhi Police which had been after him and his accomplices who were involved in the double murder of a rival gang's members, a senior officer said.

Adil and around six others of his gang had on April 19 last year shot down two members of a rival gang and injured a third in the Jaffrabad area, the officer said, adding all of them went into hiding after the crime.

The team was tracking the movements of the prime accused's wife, a lawyer whom he married while in hiding, and apprehended him when he had gone to meet her, the officer said in a statement released by the police to the media.

The other accused in the case were yet to be apprehended, it said.

Police said it was revealed through sources that all of them were hiding in western UP and changing their hideouts frequently.

Apart from the double murder case, Adil is also accused in a 2012 homicide as well as several cases of attempt to murder in Jaffrabad and Seelampur areas of north east Delhi, police said.
