Sources in the Special Cell said that a police team was rushed to the apartment of Amit Singh, an officer of Assistant Commissioner rank, in Noida Sector 100 as soon as information about the incident was received.
So far, there is no information about any suicide note recovered from the spot. Special Cell officials informed Singh's relatives at his hometown Chhapra in Bihar. His post-mortem examination was conducted today, after which his body was handed over to his relatives.
Meanwhile, Singh's wife, Sarita Singh, is still reported to be in a critical condition. She might be shifted to specialised facilities in Delhi once her condition improves, said the sources in Special Cell.
Investigators have briefed Delhi Police about the case and so far it has emerged that yesterday night, the couple was alone at home with their 18-month-old daughter when the incident took place.
Investigators also found blood stains in the premises of the apartment, suggesting that Singh's wife was injured before she took the extreme step. Neighbours told the police that she tried to slit her wrist before jumping off the balcony.
It is also suspected that she tried to kill herself with Singh's gun first and when it failed, she resorted to the other option.
In October 2014, Singh was the victim of a road rage incident near Lodhi Estate in south Delhi. Before Special Cell, Singh was in-charge of the Preet Vihar police sub-division in east Delhi.
