It is the Special Cell which has been entrusted with the task and the focus will primarily be on the alleged nexus between the underworld and terror outfits, said a senior police official.
The top brass of Delhi Police held a meeting, hours after the 55-year-old gangster landed here, and discussed a range of issues including the potential joint interrogation and the gangster's security.
"There are six cases in Delhi which are linked to Chhota Rajan. However, our quest will not be confined to that and we shall try to find out more about the underworld's alleged links with various terror outfits, including the IS," said the senior official.
Asked about the threat perception, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said that "necessary security measures will be taken".
If allowed, Rajan's interrogation is likely to be led by DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who is considered a specialist in counter-terrorist operations. Even an alternate detention centre has been kept ready at the Special Cell unit in south Delhi's Lodhi Colony, said another official.
Meanwhile, the CBI headquarters was turned into a fortress today with scores of police and paramilitary officials deployed outside its premises and the concerned road stretch blocked for several hours.
After being on the run for the past 27 years, underworld don Chhota Rajan was brought here early today morning from Indonesia by a joint team headed by CBI officials for facing trial in various criminal cases registered against him in Delhi and Mumbai.
