A wall of honour dedicated to the armymen from the Defence Colony here, who sacrificed their lives for the nation, was inaugurated today by former Chief of Army Staff Gen (retd) V P Malik.
"This wall is an example, which is needed because people do tend to forget armymen when there is no crisis. Showing respect to the martyr, is a way to inspire the younger generation to make them join the armed forces," he said.
Gen Malik, who recalled his past life spent at the posh south Delhi area, said the Defence Colony has a very special place in his heart. "I was also part of it until my retirement ... And, I think, it is very important for every state to have one (Defence Colony)," he said.
The wall has been built by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation over a period of two years.
