Delhi to get 500 cusec water from Ganga canal

Shortage of water in Delhi and the NCR is expected to be reduced after the Uttar Pradesh goverment ordered the district authorities here to release 500 cusec water from the Ganga Canal.
Delhi and its neighbouring districts have been going through a severe water shortage for the last few days after the upper Ganga Canal was shut for repairing of a breach at Khatoli.
"It has been decided that 500 cusecs of water will be discharged to supply drinking water to the Delhi Jal Board and prevent loss to the farmers in 19 district of UP," A K Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Irrigaion Department, told reporters here.
Meanwhile, officials of the Irrigation Department has announced that the water will be available in the canal by today.
