A well-marked low pressure over Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and lay about 690 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 810 km south-southeast of Paradip, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today said.
The system would move northwestwards initially and then intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours, it said.
However, there was no possibility as of now of the system developing further, officials in the IMD said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall and squally wind speed reaching up to 45 to 55 kmph has been forecast for Andaman Islands only for tomorrow.
At about 2.30 pm today, the "depression was about 580 km west-northwest of Port Blair, 690 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 810 km south-southeast of Paradip," IMD said in its bulletin.
Bay of Bengal is witness to the development of systems during this time of the year and the last one to have developed was cyclone Hudhud, which made landfall at Visakhapathnam last month, causing large-scale damage to the city.
