The development of society depends on the quality of public administration, President Pranab Mukherjee said today.
During a meeting with a group of 34 State Civil Service officers promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the President said the role of the government in public life would always remain paramount.
"Hence, the development that we envision for our society would depend on the quality of public administration," he said.
The officers, who are undergoing 113th induction training programme at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, had called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
Mukherjee said he believed that as experienced officers, working previously with the State Civil Services, they understood the reality of the country and its people well.
The President wished each one of them the very best in performing their duty with honour, dedication and dignity.
He said during the training, the officers would benefit immensely by sharing their field experiences and ideas, according to a press release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The induction training programme aims to provide the officers inputs in public administration, law, economics, management and information technology.
The overall objective of the training programme is to provide a pan India perspective to officers who have significant experience in their respective states, it said.
