The Director General of Police (DGP) for Prisons chaired a high-level meeting with officers of the central jail wherein basic infrastructure and gadgetry requirements were discussed, a police spokesman said.
Immediate security measures and long term improvements required for the jail were identified and discussed at the meeting, he said.
"The DGP, Prisons, directed all stakeholders to be extra vigilant and alert in view of the sensitivity of the institution and present security scenario in the Valley," the spokesman said.
The meeting comes two weeks after Jhatt, who was lodged at the central jail, managed to escape from police custody while he was being taken to a hospital for medical check up on February 6.
Singh visited several areas in and outside the jail, and took stock of infrastructure.
"The site inspection by the DGP was to familiarise himself with the topography and layout (of the prison) which will help in making better security arrangements and take appropriate security precautions in view of the location of the jail in the densely populated areas of Rainawari and Badamwari," the spokesman said.
