Punjab government will computerise all district offices by the end of this year after successful outcome of a pilot e-district project in Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts.
Reviewing implementation of the e-district plan during a meeting of Governance Reforms Department here, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today issued instructions to link all services to the Central Data Server by November.
The project would entail total back-end computerisation of District and Tehsil level offices to ensure electronic delivery of 47 citizen-centric services, which were earlier done manually through Suwidha Centres.
Expressing satisfaction over the results in two districts, Badal said the e-district project has ensured faster, simplified, cost effective and convenient delivery of services.
Services under the e-district project include ration cards, birth and death registration, pensions documentation, arms licenses, marriage registration and residential and caste certificates along with revenue dues.
Stressing on more transparency, Badal asked the departmental secretary to incorporate SMS-based service as part of the software.
Aadhaar numbers of people availing these services should be taken at the time of application, which would help in building effective beneficiary authentication mechanism in future, he added.
