Shahjahanpur's DSO B K Shukla was arrested yesterday following a complaint made against him by petrol pump owner Prakash Chandra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Moradabad) Pragya Mishra said.
In his complaint, Chandra had alleged that the term of his licence had expired and the DSO demanded a sum of Rs five lakh for its renewal, but nothing came of it, Mishra said.
The complainant alleged that negotiations once again started for issuing a fresh licence and the DSO again demanded the same amount.
The Dy SP said a trap was laid during which Shukla was caught accepting the bribe of Rs 50,000.
She said a case was lodged against the DSO under Anti Corruption Act at Sadar Bazar police station last night and he would be produced before the court today.
