Chinese President Xi Jinping today said the diversity of the five BRICS countries with their divergent views should be a motivating factor instead of impeding its growth, as he called for new dynamism and cooperation in the grouping.
BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) members should come up with a new vision, find new dynamism, solidify BRICS cooperation through better institutions and more substantive practical cooperation, Xi, who arrived here today to take part in sixth summit of BRICS, said in an interview to the Brazilian media.
"Given the different national conditions and culture, the BRICS countries may have different views on certain issues. But such diversity and differences should and can motivate rather than impede complementary and inclusive BRICS cooperation," Xi was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
The Fortaleza summit has great significance in advancing BRICS cooperation as it will take stock of past progress and plan for the future.
"I hope that the summit could deepen cooperation, display inclusiveness and convey confidence," Xi said.
"BRICS cooperation is not solely aimed at self improvement. It is intended to bring about common development through concerted efforts with all other countries," he said
"To convey confidence means we should have full confidence in the solidarity and mutual trust among the BRICS countries and in the prospect of BRICS, and also boost the confidence of the market and people in the BRICS economies," he added.
