In a relief to lakhs of people living in Dwarka and surrounding areas, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has commissioned the largest command tank supplying an additional 60 million litres of water everyday.
The DJB has commissioned Command Tank C T -1 of Dwarka, providing 60 million litres additional water every day, the Jal Board said in a press release issued today.
"It was only on March 31 that the DJB had taken over water supply and sewerage services in Dwarka area from Delhi Development Authority (DDA)," it said.
"Apart from rectification and commissioning of three 3 Command Tanks and many kilometers of water lines earlier, DJB started trial run of command tank 1 around 15 years ago. These tanks were constructed by DDA but were non-operational due to shortage of water," it added.
As a result, all the peripheral water lines, of length more than 15 kms, which were laid around 10 years ago were lying defunct.
According to the DJB, after full commissioning of command tank 1, aroud 26 colonies with population of around 4.50 lakh will be benefitted.
After the commissioning of WTPs at Dwarka and Bawana, the DJB is aiming to commission all the old reservoirs and booster pumping stations.
In addition, to extend the water supply in all the unserved areas which will phase-out the use of ground water as well as tankers supply, the DJB has fixed the target of current fiscal year to extend the water supply in more than 150 colonies, it said.
