Doctors successfully perform a rare operation

Narayan Singh (30), a farmer, was successfully operated upon last week at the SMS government hospital here for the condition which could cause life-threatening hemorrhage, Dr R M Mathur, under whose direction the teams carried out the operation, said.

Singh was having acute pain with swelling on the back of left side of chest for the last one year, Mathur said. During examination, it was found that the swelling was having pulsation matching with the heart, he said.

"It was a challenging operation because risk factor was quite high. The patient is fast recovering post operation," he said.

"Partial Femoro-femoral bypass was done in order to save blood loss and to have proper blood supply to kidney, spinal cord and intestine. Thoracic surgery was then performed and the lung was separated from aneurysm," he said.

It was a difficult operation as during separation of lung from the aneurysm, excess of blood loss could have increased the risk of the patient's life, the doctor said, adding it was quite rare for a patient with such a large aneurysm to survive after operation.

The team comprised of Dr Sanjeev Deogarha, Dr Ramswroop Sen, Dr Sunil Sharma, Dr Viju, Dr Amita Yadav, Dr Rima Meena, Dr V K Vyas and Dr Indu Verma.

Mathur said the details of the operation will be forwarded for publication in an international journal.
