Acting on a tip-off about the use of mobile phones by inmates, Sub-Divisional Officer Navdeep Shukla and Sub- Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sanjay Kumar raided the district jail premises and recovered 12 mobile phones, as many chargers and three extra SIM cards from cells of inmates, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Chhatraneel Singh said.
The district administration had requisitioned bomb squad and dog squad to assist the officials during search, he said, but declined to give further details.
Singh said a probe was on to find out complicity of the jail administration among various other aspects related to use of mobile phones by inmates which was banned as per jail manual.
