Inspector General (IG) Gwalior range, Adarsh Katiyar said that Ravi Kirar alias Shera carrying a reward of Rs 30,000 was killed in a police encounter.
Acting on a tip-off that Kirar was trying to flee to adjoining Uttar Pradesh, police surrounded the area and asked him to surrender when he was spotted riding a motorcycle along with his companion but he started firing at the police party forcing them to retaliate.
Kirar was killed on the spot while his companion managed to escape from there, the IG said.
The IG said that Kirar, who was released four months ago from jail after serving sentence in a case had formed his own gang, which killed five persons in last few months besides indulging in several loots and extortions.
The gang was also involved in recent murders of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), R S Gautam and constable Rakesh Gurjar.
