DRI seizes Rs 2.5 cr worth smuggled gold from Bangladesh

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized over Rs 2.5 crore worth gold smuggled from Bangladesh and arrested two persons in this regard.
Acting on intelligence reports, the DRI officials intercepted the duo in Kolkata yesterday.
A total of 45 gold biscuits of foreign origin weighing 8.78 kgs in all, and each weighing 116 gms have been seized, a press release issued by the agency said today.
The gold biscuits had markings of 'Credit Suisse 10 Tolas 999.0 Chi Essayeur Fondeur', 'Al Etihad, Dubai-UAE 10 Tola 999.0', 'Argor Heraeussa Switzerland 1 Kilo Fine Gold 999.9 Melter Assayer' and 'MN 9399 1 Kilo Fine Gold 999.9 Melter Assayer' with Chinese markings, it said.

The two accused had smuggled the foreign origin gold into India from Bangladesh in contravention of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, the release said.
With this seizure, the total gold seized by the DRI Kolkata this year stands at 281 kgs, it added.
