The jawan, who was reportedly drunk at the time of incident, was later detained by the city police.
Inspector P B Sapra of Rander Police station said the SRPF jawan, identified as constable Raghvendrasinh Damor, aged around 32, had early morning fired two rounds in the air in Tarwadi police chowky, after which we detained him.
"Damor was found in an inebriated condition when he fired two rounds from his service gun. Nobody suffered any injury in the incident," Sapra added.
He first fired inside the police chowky and then went towards the door and fired in the air, he said.
The police personnel, who were present in the chowky at the time of incident, detained Damor, while his colleague ran away to evade detention, he said.
"An inquiry into the incident is on and an offence will be registered soon," Sapra said.
Consumption and sale of liquor has been prohibited in Gujarat since its formation in 1960 and the police are likely to register an offence under prohibition act, Sapra said.
