Deputy Superintendent of Police Ploster Syiem, who led an operation against Karbi militants at Moolaber area along border of Assam's Karbi Anglong district, sustained injuries in his left arm when militants fired upon the police team.
"The deputy SP was injured when he was attacked by the militants at around 11 AM. He led an operation against Karbi militants who are reportedly collecting tax from the people living in the border areas in Block I," Acting Deputy Commissioner D M Wahlang told PTI.
Wahlang said the police officer was taken to the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences near here.
Police said operation in the area has been intensified after the attack had confirmed the presence of militants.
