Taking cognisance of complaints alleging "inaction" by its special observer in checking rigging of polls in West Bengal, the Election Commission today said it is examining the matter.
CPI, CPI(M) and West Bengal Congress have moved the EC alleging inaction by the officials.
They have alleged that during the April 30 polling in the state, large scale rigging had taken place and the special observer allegedly did not act on complaints.
EC sources said the poll body will thoroughly examine the issue before taking a call.
They said video recording of rigging will also be examined along with complaints that he made no attempt to act on specific cases mentioned by political parties to them.
A delegation of leaders of CPI(M) and CPI met top EC officials here and submitted a memorandum saying that in order "to restore the faith of the people at large, the special observer be withdrawn forthwith and action against the CEO, West Bengal expeditiously initiated. Further, repoll be held as demanded in the representation."
The same demand was also made by the West Bengal Congress in Kolkata, with senior leader Adhir Chowdhury saying it was difficult to hold free, fair and peaceful poll under the special observer.
