EC official attacked in Midnapore

An official of Election Commission was assaulted by unidentified persons while on duty at Shalboni area of West Midnapore district today, EC officials said.
One person has been arrested based on video footage after the attack in Kalshibhanga area of Shalboni in the district, the officials said.
The identity or political affiliation of the attackers and circumstances behind the attack was also not known, they said.
"The EC has taken a strong view of the incident. We have asked the District Magistrate to submit report within next 24 hours," Deputy Chief Electoral Offier Amit Roy Chowdhury said.
The assault comes close on the heels of the recent thrashing of EC officials in Malda district by Trinamool Congress activists.

The commission also took a strong view of the murder of a Trinamool activist in Burdwan district.
"We have asked the DM to submit report and 16 persons have been arrested," Chowdhury said.
