The British singer beat Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, and The Chainsmokers to become the most streamed artist for the current year, said a statement posted on Spotify's official website.
Sheeran's album "" (Divide) was the most streamed album of the year worldwide with 3.1 billion streams.
Sheeran's song "Shape of You" was the top track with 1.4 billion streams. The 26-year-old singer also holds the crown of Spotify's number one streaming artist with over 47 million listeners.
"Ed Sheeran absolutely dominated this year with the release of his record-breaking album, Divide," said Stefan Blom, Spotify's Chief Content Officer.
Meanwhile, Rihanna was once again named the Most Streamed Female Artists by the streaming giant.
The "We Found Love" hitmaker beat Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Sia to clinch the top spot.
