The school education department has recommended action against the superintendent of a state-run hostel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district where students were allegedly made to cook and serve meat to teachers during a function held recently.
"After the incident came to my knowledge yesterday, a team led by Block Education Officer (BEO) was sent to Jamgaon village under Narharpur development block," Kanker District Education Officer (DEO) T R Sahu told PTI.
As per the preliminary report, some teachers of Government High School, Jamgaonhad organised a function on September 6 to bid farewell to a teacher who was transferred recently, at the boys' hostel run by tribal development department in the same premises, he said.
During that programme, students were asked to cook and serve food, including meat, he added.
The officer, however, rejected the allegations that liquor was served in the programme.
"Holding such functions in the educational premises or students' hostel is the violation of rules. Based on the preliminary report, the tribal development department has been recommended to take action against the hostel superintendent while show cause notice will be issued to the concerned teachers," he added.
The incident came to light after some local newspapers published reports that students were allegedly asked to cook meat and serve it to teachers along with liquor in the government school premises in Jamgaon.
According to media reports, parents of the students had claimed that their children were allegedly asked to collect money for food and liquor by teachers.
