Renowned educationist Swami Raj Baghat today joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) here.
Baghat, who has recently taken voluntary retirement as principal of a higher secondary institute in Jammu's Ramban district, joined the party at a function chaired by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at the latter's Gupkar residence here, a PDP spokesman said.
Welcoming Baghat into the party fold, Sayeed said the doors of his party are open for people like Baghat who want to contribute in the party's efforts to see Jammu and Kashmir out of the present uncertainty and gloom.
"It is now an imperative that distinguished people from all walks of life join the PDP to give a push to the campaign for change in the system that the party is ultimately aiming at and after the Lok Sabha elections has entered a critical stage," the PDP patron said.
He said a decisive victory for the party in the upcoming Assembly polls could open new avenues for the state to come out of its political problems and economic deprivation.
"By giving a decisive mandate to the party in the just-concluded parliamentary elections people have showed an enormous amount of trust and faith in the party's pro-people policies," he said.
Sayeed said it was only because of the people's support that PDP could write a new chapter in the state's history, which will enable the party to take forward its "unfinished agenda of political resolution and good governance".
