Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has initiated a feasibility study on the prospects of launching efficient domestic lighting programme in the Southeast Asian country.
"A feasibility study is underway in Vietnam, funded by the United Nations Environment Programme, on the possibility of launching country-wide efficient domestic lighting programme," EESL CGM (technical) S P Garnaik told PTI.
He said an agreement with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) was signed last year to roll out such a programme.
EVN is Vietnam's state-held company and is in charge of domestic electricity generation, transmission, distribution and trading.
Garnaik said there is a potential of replacing 100 million power inefficient bulbs with LEDs in that country. The programme could begin from March 2018.
He said EESL will help Vietnam formulate a framework based on which EVN can execute such projects.
EESL has also established an agreement with Cambodian enterprise D&D Group to scout opportunities for energy efficiency projects in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Garnaik said EESL is also offering consultancy to manage energy efficient programmes that include aggregating demand, procurement and execution.
EESL implemented LED lamps distribution scheme - 'UJALA' in various parts of India.
EESL's work has been recognised in the international circuit with the IEA (International Energy Agency) publishing a case study on UJALA.
The Government of India has included EESL's work in government-to-government engagements in UK, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia.
