A gangster from Haryana and four city-based realtors were among eight persons arrested for their alleged involvement in trading of country-made firearms procured illegally from Uttar Pradesh, police said today.
Mohammad Arief and Mohammad Jaheed Khan, on the run since they escaped from the Langer House Cross Roads here during a police checking, were nabbed yesterday along with others accused, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said.
Eight country-made firearms were seized from their possession, he added.
On July 6, Arief and Jaheed (both from Nuhu in Haryana state) had escaped while they they were about to be frisked by police. The duo pushed aside the policemen and ran away.
A case was registered in this connection and during course of investigation, police managed to apprehend them from Falaknuma area.
During interrogation, Arief confessed that he brought country-made weapons to Hyderabad from UP, he said.
Arief, who came to the city around 4 years back for real estate business, resorted to procuring and selling weapons and ammunition illegally after he failed in his initial venture, Sharma said.
He also formed a gang along with Khan and Shaik Nissar Ahmed, and allegedly indulged in vehicle theft, the police officer said, adding that further investigations were on.
