Elderly couple murdered in robbery attempt

An elderly couple was allegedly murdered by two unidentified assailants in a robbery attempt in Maheshnagar area of Ambala Cantonment in the wee hours today, police said.
"The accused gained entry into the house of Virender (60) and his wife Lata (59). Their son lived in the upper storey of the same building.
"The assailants entered the room of the elderly couple who were asleep. They attacked the couple with sharp weapons and took away some valuables from there," a police official said.
The family members later found the couple lying in a pool of blood, he said, adding that the victims were rushed to a civil hospital where they were declared brought dead.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons in the incident, police said.
Senior police officers and forensic experts inspected the crime site.
