The incident came to light when the body of 62-year-old woman, identified as Rajjo, was discovered by her neighbours late last evening.
Preliminary investigation indicated that she was strangulated to death by someone known to her, police said.
"She was alone in the house as her husband Mahavir and son Raju were out for work. The motive behind the murder did not appear to be robbery as nothing valuable was missing from the house," said a senior police officer.
Neighbours of the victim suspected foul play when she did not respond to repeated calls by them. One of the neighbours entered the house and found her lying in her room, police said.
A case of murder has been registered at Khajoori Khas police station and some suspects were being questioned, the officer said.
