The carcasses of a female elephant and its calf were found in a paddy field near Neyunti village in Mayurbhanj district, officials said today.
Forest officials rushed to the spot, which falls under Gudugudia Forest Range, to ascertain the cause of death of the animals after the carcasses were spotted yesterday.
The cause of death could be ascertained after proper inquiry, Karanjia DFO PK Behera said.
According to the villagers, the female elephant along with its calf had strayed from a nearby forest and entered the village on Friday.
