Elephants destroy standing crops in Bankura

A herd of about 100 elephants today destroyed standing crops in Sonamukhi and adjacent areas of Bankura district, forest department sources said here.
The herd went on the rampage at areas near the Damodar river like Rampur, Hamirhati and Sonamukhi.
A huge amount of standing crops like cabbage and cauliflower were destroyed by the animals, the sources said adding forest department personnel were trying to chase the elephants back to the forested area.
