Elephants kill 2 women

Two women were killed by elephants in two villages under Goaltore police station in West Midnapore district today, police said.
Sulekha Mahto (45) was collecting 'mahua' flowers in Operbandi village when an elephant lifted her by its trunk, threw her on the ground and then trampled her, Additional Superintendent of Police Angshuman Saha said, adding, she died on the spot.
In the second incident that occurred at Kadamdiha village, Sulekha Mahto unknowingly went in front of a herd of elephants.
Saha said one of the elephants lifted her and flung her, seriously injuring the woman.
She later died in a hospital.
