Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today laid the foundation of the 3.3 km-long elevated road.
The construction of the elevated road is part of the Rs 2,200 crore project under which a 17km-long stretch from Vikaspuri in West Delhi to Wazirabad in North Delhi on the Outer Ring road will be made signal-free.
In the first phase of the project, government will spend Rs 559.6 crore which includes construction of the 3.3km elevated road which will zip over five major intersections.
"The Delhi Government is committed to provide a smooth transport system in the city. Major roads in the city are choking due to high intensity of traffic and we have been constantly trying to improve the network," Dikshit said.
In her address, Dikshit said the traffic situation in Delhi has eased substantially after construction of around 75 flyovers in the last 13 years.
"The situation is bound to improve further after commissioning of the Signature bridge," she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chauhan said PWD will soon take up a number of mega road projects to make the Outer Ring Road signal-free.
He said flyovers and elevated roads will come up between Meera Bagh and Deepali Chowk, Badli and Mukarba Chowk. Flyovers will also come up between Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad.
This road would be extended upto Noida. Apart from this, a parallel six lane road near Supplementary Drain would be constructed around Mukarba Chowk and other congested portions, Chauhan said.
