President of Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, who arrived here to express solidarity with Sister Superior of a convent school who was allegedly gangraped, said, "CBCI would like to request the authorities to ensure that justice is done".
"Justice should be made visible and such act should not continue. We are here to see personally what has happened", he said.
Soon after his arrival here, Cardinal Cleemis went to the convent to meet the other nuns to give them moral support and visited the septuagenarian nun at the hospital.
He offered prayers at the Ranghat sub-divisional hospital room where the nun is being treated.
Hospital superintendent A K Mondol said that the hospital authorities were "in a position to release her, but the final decision has to be taken by patient party, the police and the district administration. "
Fifteen persons have so far been detained, Nadia district superintendent of police Arnab Ghosh said.
A police team has been sent outside the state in connection with the investigation.
The CCTV footage at the convent had shown four persons, who were allegedly involved in the crime. The SP had announced a reward of Rs one lakh to any individual providing information leading to the arrest of the accused.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited the nun on Monday.
The 71-year-old nun was allegedly gangraped by dacoits at Gangnapur in the early hours on Saturday after which a CID probe was ordered into the incident.
