Entire TN to be on National Population Register by Sep

The National Population Register, which aims at covering Tamil Nadu by September, would set up permanent registration centres across the state by October, a senior census official said today.
"We aim to cover the entire state by September and then we would set up permanent NPR registration centres in taluk and zone levels," M V R Krishna Rao, Joint Director of Census Operations, told reporters here.
A total of 3.20 crore of 6.75 crore people in the state have already been covered in the NPR, he said.
In Chennai city alone, over six lakh persons have been covered, he said, adding that work at six of the seven zones are already on and Adyar zone would commence in June.
Asked about those with Aadhar cards, he said, "Those with Aadhar cards can give their Aadhar numbers while applying for NPR so that their bio-metric data shall not be taken twice.
