Ferrara, 35, whose specific role has yet to be revealed, joins Tom Hanks as Capt Chelsey 'Sully' Sullenberger III, Laura Linney as his wife, and Aaron Eckhart as Sully's co-pilot, reported Variety.
Based on the book by Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow, the biopic follows Sullenberger as he becomes a national hero after safely landing a damaged passenger plane on the Hudson River in 2009.
The actor was last seen in the comedy-drama "Entourage" as Salvatore "Turtle" Vacara.
"Sully" is scheduled to start production in the fall.
