Titled "Top Gun: Maverick", the film is the long- gestating sequel to Tom Cruise's hit 1986 movie, reported Ace Showbiz.
The script was originally written by Justin Marks who penned Disney's live-action remake of "The Jungle Book", which was directed by Jon Favreau.
Singer was most likely brought in for a rewrite before production starts early next year.
Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have also written the script for the project.
Plot details are still kept under tight wraps, but the sequel is said to feature drone technology as it explores the end of an era for dogfighting and fighter pilots.
