Former President of Bangladesh Hussain Mohammad Ershad has expressed his desire for an early solution to the Teesta water sharing problem for the greater interest of Bangladeshi farmers.
"Several thousand acres of land are lying unused due to scarcity of water," Ershad, who has come to visit his ancestral house at Dinhata in Cooch Behar district on December 8, said here last evening.
In 2012, when the former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh had visited Bangladesh, he said, the people of his country expected that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would also come. But as she declined to go, the people of Bangladesh were greatly disappointed as they saw no hope in sharing of the Teesta water.
Ershad said that he had sent a CD of songs, composed by him, to the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the pains of Bangladeshi farmers for not getting the water of the Teesta and expressed hope that the problem on sharing the Teesta water would be solved soon.
