ESIC officer arrested by CBI in graft case

A Deputy Director of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has been arrested by CBI here for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 to clear the pending bills of a businessman for supply of medicines.
CBI had received a complaint against the Deputy Director, ESIC, Bapunagar alleging that he demanded the illegal gratification in order to clear the pending bills for supply of medicines amounting to over Rs 5 lakh.
The businessman was awarded was awarded the contract for supply of medicines to the ESIC Model Hospital, Bapunagar, which expired on February 28.
"A trap was laid and the Deputy Director was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant. Searches at the office and residential premises of accused at Jaipur and Ahmedabad were conducted," agency said in a statement.
The officer has been sent to CBI custody till tomorrow.
