Fanai told PTI that the accused J Lalramliana was arrested and brought to Bawngkawn police station here.
The accused has confessed to the murder, the police said.
The SP said that the accused and his wife H Lalsawmliani (46) have been separated for almost six months due to the violent behaviour of the husband and Lalramliana was staying in his native South Lungleng village.
Lalramliana, after arriving at Sesawng village, sent his friends pleading with his wife to return to him, but to no avail.
Police said that the victim suffered multiple injuries on her head, elbow and shoulders and died on the spot while her alleged lover slipped out of the house after the enraged husband entered the house.
The villagers, learning about the murder locked the doors of the house from outside and notified the police who arrested the accused.
Autopsy would be performed at the nearby Thingsulthliah Primary Health Centre today after which funeral would be held in Sesawng this afternoon.
