Ex IB Spl Director, 3 others made accused in Ishrat case

The CBI today charged former Intelligence Bureau Special Director Rajinder Kumar with murder in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case while accusing three other serving officers of criminal conspiracy and other offences but left out Amit Shah, a close aide of Narendra Modi, who was under the scanner in the case.
Nearly a decade after Ishrat was murdered along with her friend Javed Sheikh alias Parnesh Pillai in Gujarat and two others believed to be Pakistani nationals, the CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H S Kutwad naming Kumar, who was the then Joint Director of IB and posted in Gujarat.

He was charged with 120-B (criminal conspiracy) for 302 (murder) and other sections of Indian Penal Code besides various provisions of the Arms Act.
Shah, who was Minister of State for Home during the sensational killing of Ishrat, a girl from Mumbra near Mumbai, and the alleged LeT activists in June 2004, is an accused in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
Along with Kumar, those named in the charge sheet are serving officers P Mittal, M K Sinha and Rajiv Wankhede who have been booked for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, kidnapping and wrongful concealment besides various sections of the Arms Act.

Surprisingly, the CBI went ahead with the charge sheet against the IB officers notwithstanding the denial of sanction of prosecution by the Law Ministry which had stated that the evidence was not enough.
The CBI has been cautious over the alleged role of Shah, stating that the investigations in the case may continue if the court so desired.
The court has fixed tomorrow's date for scrutinising the charge sheet after which it would be committed to the Sessions court for taking congnizance and other legal formalities.
