A special vigilance court today rejected the bail petition of former Ranchi mayor Rama Khalkho, who is in judicial custody in connection with cash-for-vote scam during mayoral elections in April this year.
Judge A B K Sinha rejected the bail petition after studying the case diary and the charges slapped against her.
The court had on Wednesday directed the vigilance bureau to place the case diary before it.
Khalkho had on June 4 surrendered to the court which had remanded her in judicial custody.
She had been absconding after the court of judicial magistrate had issued arrest warrants on April 9 following an FIR lodged against her and two others after seizure of Rs 21.9 lakh from a hotel on April 7 where the three were allegedly present.
The FIR alleged that the money was allegedly kept for electoral malpractice, leading the state election commission to scrap the April 8 mayoral elections.
The two other persons, who were arrested in the case, were identified as Niranjan Shah and Sudhir Kumar Sahu.
