A city court today remanded Sahil Rajpal, who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) yesterday for allegedly extorting money by making spoof calls to government engineers, in five days of police custody.
Rajapl, who is the grandson of ex-minister Radheyshaym Ganganagar, was produced in the court where the magistrate remanded him in five days of custody, an ACB official said.
Posing as an ACB officer, the 31-year-old accused had demanded Rs 10 lakh from engineers of the state Public Health Engineering Department for settling a case and had taken Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant, police had said yesterday.
They had said it was probably the first-of-its-kind case in the state where spoof calls were made using international gateway Internet calling.
"We had been chasing the accused since February this year and had contacted telecom companies of nine countries to nab the accused," IG, ACB, Sachin Mittal had said.
