Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled the death of Chamaria and announced a state funeral for him, the Chief Minister's Office said in Patna.
Chamaria (86) died at a private hospital in Siliguri in West Bengal after prolonged illness, his son Anil Chamria said.
He had served as member of Bihar Legislative Council from 1972-78 and was elected MLA from Katihar on Congress ticket in 1980.
Born in 1928, Chamaria was an active social worker and ran some educational institutions in Katihar district.
He would be cremated at Manihari ghat this evening with full state honours.
