Nepali Congress leader Devendra Raj Kandel survived the assassination attempt after his bodyguard overpowered the assailants who were on a motorbike bearing an Uttar Pradesh registration number, according to Nepal Police sources.
The former minister of state for home was going to his fish farm when the attempt was made on his life.
The assailants have been identified as Ujwal Gartaula, 44, and Yogendra Patanwar, 42, both from Maharajganj in India, said the police.
This was the second time that an assassination bid was made on Kandel as in the past also he had been attacked where he was injured seriously.
