Issues like water scarcity, the deteriorating ground water quality, and India's growing water needs will be the centre of discussion at an upcoming expo and conclave.

Scheduled to be held from August 23, the 15th edition of Everything About Water Expo and Conclave at Pragati Maidan here will try to find sustainable solutions to the country's water problems which can be implemented successfully.

Organised by water solution company Everything About Water, the event will focus on creating awareness about the need for growth of community drinking water, the reuse and recycle of waste water, and sea water desalination, the organisers said in a statement.

The conclave will be inaugurated by water conservationist Rajendra Singh, K C Naik, chairman - Central Ground Water Board, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, director general - National Mission for Clean Ganga, and Shyamal Sarkar, director - water resources at TERI.

Talking about India's growing need for potable water, H Subramaniam, COO- EA Water, said that rapid industrialisation and growing population have "widened the water demand-supply gap".

"With the increasing consumption of water in agriculture and potable areas, India is expected to be severely water stressed by 2025. In a recent report of Niti Ayog, it has been revealed that India is facing the worst water crisis in history. The report has also mentioned that the demand for portable water will overtake the water supply by 2030 if the necessary steps are not taken currently. For a better future, we have to start thinking today," he added.

The international conference will come to a close on August 25.
