On the instruction of Malkangiri superintendent of police, Akhileswar Singh, a police team led by Inspector-in-charge of Malkangiri police station, Fram Kiro conducted the raid at the crusher unit near MV-7 village and seized huge quantity of gelatine, nitrogen, booster, detonator and other explosive materials.
Though the licence of the crusher unit of the company has expired about four months ago, the illegal explosive materials were stored in the unit, which was under further investigation, Kiro said.
Few months ago, huge quantities of explosives were seized from another construction company and its top officials were arrested. It was alleged that the explosives were kept in the unit to be supplied to the Maoists.
Meanwhile, the district has been cut off from the rest of the world as traffic communications was totally disrupted for the last two days as the Maoists were observing "sahid saptah" (martyrs' week) starting from yesterday.
The ultras hoisted flags, festoons against police personnel at different places of the district as part of their sahid saptah celebrations.
Even shops and business establishments in Kalimela, Motu, Chitrakonda and others areas of the district have downed their shutters fearing Maoists attack due to sahid saptah.
